What Allay can do

Allay answers by looking into the game through tools, instead of guessing. Each section below is a kind of thing you can ask for. Every tool can be switched off in Configuration.

#It knows the game and the server

  • What to do next, which sword is better, how many hits for this creeper. Allay reads your status, inventory, statistics, and advancements, and knows the game's formulas.
  • This server's recipes and rules. Recipes come from the server, game rules from the world.
  • The server's plugins. Questions about graves, claims, or AFK get answers for the plugin and version that really run. tools.server.hidden_plugins leaves some out, such as an anti-cheat.
  • It explains itself. “What can you do?” or “how do I turn off chat mode?”: Allay reads the commands and settings this player really has, and switches chat mode when asked in words.
  • Web search, when the backend has a search model.

#It sees what you see

One look covers whatever is under the crosshair:

  • a block and what it drops;
  • a container and its contents;
  • an enchanting table and its bookshelves;
  • a mob and the hits it takes;
  • a villager and its trades.

#It knows your things

Your inventory, armor, offhand, the ender chest, and what's inside bundles and shulker boxes. Any item in full: enchantments, potion durations, trims, books, maps, and a weapon's damage and speed as the tooltip shows them. It also checks wear on tools and armor, your XP, and the food you carry.

#It finds things

“Where's my redstone?” finds an item and counts it: in the inventory, the ender chest, and the chests nearby (32 blocks around by default), inside shulker boxes and bundles too. The chests it finds light up with what's inside written over them. When the nearest is far or behind a wall, a [The way] button shows the way.

Allay looks only into containers you could open yourself. See Integrations.

#It shows the way

Ask for the way to a death point, a village, a cherry grove, or a place from your notebook. The compass points there and a particle trail leads you.

  • The trail lasts as long as you ask or the walk needs, and goes out once you arrive.
  • It comes in a dozen looks, from flames to hearts.
  • /allay cancel hides it.

The way to another player follows them as they run. Allay sees other players only as your locator bar shows them: a name, a distance, and a direction. Whoever hides from the bar by crouching, a pumpkin, or invisibility is hidden from Allay too.

#It marks blocks for you

“Where's my redstone?” lights up the chests that hold it, with what's inside written over them. “Where do I put torches?” puts glowing ghost torches on the dark spots where mobs could spawn.

  • Only you see the marks.
  • They go out after their time (30 seconds by default), on /allay cancel, or when you place a block on a ghost.
  • They glow through walls, so Allay never marks ores, spawners, or vaults, and marks only containers you could open yourself.

#A tidy inventory

“Sort my inventory, sword first, water in the second slot.”

  1. Stacks merge at once.
  2. The hotbar and offhand move only when you ask.
  3. A pinned slot takes the best item of its kind.

Say how the rest should lie: “iron first”, “food in the last row”, “bundles in the right column”, “by category, each kind on its own row”, “don't touch the books”, or “just merge the stacks”. Chests take the same words. See Automation agents.

Ask Allay to remember the layout, and next time “sort my inventory” is enough. [Put back] under the answer undoes a sort for 5 minutes.

#Drafts of builds (experimental)

Drafts are off by default: they cost many tokens and often come out wrong. Turn on tools.enabled.show_draft to try them.

“How do I build a small oak house?” or “draw me a sugar cane farm” puts the build in front of you as glowing ghosts, layer by layer, up to 20×15×20.

  1. Each block you place goes out.
  2. A wrong block turns red and says what belongs there.
  3. When a layer is done, the next lights up. A bar counts.

Bigger builds come in parts. Ask to turn or move the draft, or to check it against what you built. Drafts work only where you may build.

#It debugs redstone

“Why doesn't my door open?” reads the machine you look at: dust power, repeater delays, comparators, pistons, torches. The game's rules point at the fault, like dust running past the door, a burned-out torch, or a jammed piston, and red marks show where. Only in places you may build.

#A farm check

Allay scans the farm around you: crops by stage, farmland, animals, and spawners.

#A notebook, goals, and reminders

  • Notes: “remember there's an arrow trader here” saves a note with coordinates. Allay knows the dimension, so a bastion noted in the Nether stays in the Nether. Up to 200 notes per player.
  • Goals: “set a goal to collect 16 diamonds” shows a boss bar at the top of the screen. Up to 5 goals at once.
  • Reminders: “remind me in 5 minutes”, from 1 to 120 minutes. Up to 10 at once; a restart or leaving the server drops them.
  • A ping: a sound and particles over you that everyone nearby sees and hears.

#Brewing, enchanting, and the anvil

Allay reads potions from the game's own brewing recipes, checks what you have for brewing, and plans the anvil with the books and items you really have. The windows under the answer show it step by step. See Asking Allay. To have the brewing or the anvil done for you, ask an automation agent.

#Operator tools

For operators only, Allay can give items (up to 576, with enchantments), teleport, change the game mode, heal, apply effects, and set the time and weather. The assistant gets these tools only when the asker is an operator, and the plugin checks again before running one. A regular player can't talk it into a sword. tools.operator.enabled: false turns them all off.
