Asking Allay

#Three ways to ask

Command What happens
/ask <question> A private question: only you see it and the answer
/askall <question> A question everyone online sees, with the answer
/askx <what to do> Allay turns the request into commands and runs them as you, minus blocked_commands. Operators only by default

Public questions share one thread per server, so a friend can follow up on someone else's question. Everyone who reads a public answer gets its buttons and hears a quiet chortle. Between two public questions a player waits askall.cooldown_seconds (30 by default), and allay.askall.nocooldown skips the wait.

Allay answers in the language of the question.

#Chat mode

When friends talk on Discord and the game chat is free, chat mode sends everything you write to Allay.

  1. Run /allay chat (or /allay chat on).

  2. Write in chat. The first character decides where a line goes, with or without a space after it:

    You write It goes
how do I find netherite? To Allay, privately, like /ask
! give me a stack of torches To Allay as commands, like /askx
? where's the nearest village? To everyone, like /askall
~ brb To the ordinary chat
  3. Run /allay chat off to stop.

Chat mode stays on between visits, and the plugin reminds you when you join. After your second /ask, a quiet tip offers chat mode, with a button to switch it on and one to hide the tip. /allay hints off hides it for good. You can also ask in words: “turn off chat mode”.

#While it works

  • The action bar shows a spinner, a changing verb, the seconds, and the tokens read (↑) and written (↓).
  • A chat line appears for each tool Allay uses, with its result under it.
  • Allay sounds like an allay: a curious hum while it works, a happy chortle with the answer, a soft sigh when something fails.
  • /allay cancel stops the question. Only one question per player runs at a time.

#Buttons and windows

Answers end with buttons: a follow-up question, the way to a spot, coordinates to copy, a note, a recipe, the brewing steps, the anvil plan, enchantments, the villagers around. A button belongs to the player who got it and works for an hour.

Some buttons open windows. You can open them by hand too:

  • /allay recipe <item>: the recipe.
  • /allay brewing <potion> [splash_potion|lingering_potion]: every brewing step from a water bottle to the potion, from the game's own brewing recipes.
  • /allay anvil: the cheapest order to merge your enchanted books and items onto the item in your hand, with the books and items you really have: which goes left, which right, and what each step costs.
  • /allay enchants: enchantments for the item in your hand.
  • /allay villagers: the villagers around and their trades.

The windows show pictures only, so nothing can be taken from them.

When you ask for detail, Allay may write a long answer as a book. [Take the book] gives you that written book, once.

#Memory and conversations

  • Before your first question on a server, Allay says what it sends to its backend, where your data is kept, and that AI providers write the answers, and asks you to agree. Press [I agree] and your question goes on; [No, thanks] and Allay neither answers nor keeps anything. /allay privacy withdraw takes the agreement back.
  • Allay remembers facts about you across conversations. /allay memory lists them, /allay forget <number|all> erases them, and /allay privacy says what else is kept and erases all of it. Full privacy (/allay privacy full on, or the switch in /allay) keeps your name, UUID, and skin out of the backend's admin panel, which then knows you by a pseudonym; Allay still remembers what you told it.
  • /allay memory <text> remembers the text without asking Allay. With coordinates in it (x y z or x z), it becomes a note in your notebook, in the dimension the text names (“nether”, «ад») or the one you stand in.
  • Each answer keeps what the tools found, so “and how many were in that chest?” or “what dropped when I died?” needs no second look (Allay Server 5.5 and newer).
  • A long talk folds into a short summary, and a talk left alone expires. /allay new starts over; what Allay remembers about you stays.

#Your time zone

Allay sees your date and time with every question. Everyone starts in time.zone from the config. Tell Allay where you are (“I'm in Berlin”), or pick it in the /allay window, and it remembers.
